I am into Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot from the release date. I normally run as my own user bikram for entering into machine. For certain purpose only I enter into the machine from root user. In normal user “bikram” , Sound was working properly. But When I enter from root user all sound settings are in disabled mode and sound is not coming when I login or Logout or play any media files. It was a headache for me about 1 weeks. I kept on searching for the solution on net but couldn’t found proper solution. I tried reinstalling sound drivers and updating my all packages but all gone useless.
Yesterday , One post on the net showed me some idea which actuallly worked for me. The solution was by running alsamixer from terminal. For this type “alsamixer” in terminal and you will below screen shot. Now you can adjust volume by pressing up and down arrow key in master.
